The court postponed the hearing in the case of political prisoners of the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars and two activists

The Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Sochi was supposed to start considering an appeal against the verdict of the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Nariman Dzhelal, and the Akhtemov brothers. At their request, the meeting was postponed to July 27, as they were not handed the documents so that they could familiarize themselves with them before the start of the process.

In 2022, a Russian court sentenced Nariman Dzhelal, deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, as well as activists Asan and Aziz Akhtemovs, to terms of 13 to 17 years in a strict regime colony. They were found guilty of sabotage on a gas pipeline in the Crimean village of Perevalnoye and cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence. The defense called the criminal case a falsification, pointing out that the evidence obtained through torture cannot be considered admissible. There are tortures, secret witnesses, closed trials in the case.

Recall that the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people has been banned on the territory of the Russian Federation since 2016. He is included in the list of extremist structures, despite the demands of international organizations to cancel this decision.
