Diseases progress in Crimean Tatar political prisoner

Crimean Tatar Remzi Memetov, sentenced to 9 years and serving a term in a Russian penal colony in Stavropol, was visited by relatives. He spent 7 years in prison and spoke about his progressive chronic diseases - hypertension and arthrosis.

Remzi Memetov is a member of the first Bakhchisaray group in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. Before his arrest, he worked for many years as a cook in the Salachik ethnographic caravanserai. He was charged under Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization”), as well as under Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Preparation for the violent seizure of power by an organized group by prior conspiracy”). In December 2018, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Remzi Memetov to nine years in prison.

In 2019, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on Russia to release all Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar political prisoners. The Islamic political party "Hizb ut-Tahrir" was recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation at a closed court session. Human rights activists believe that this decision was made unreasonably, in violation of publicity and equality of arms. In Ukraine and other countries, the party operates legally.
