Representatives of the Council of Europe have called on Azerbaijani authorities to release human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Specifically, PACE rapporteur on political prisoners Azadeh Rojhan asserts that his prosecution is political in nature and that fundamental principles of a fair trial were violated during the proceedings.
The FSB Directorate for Adygea announced the opening of a criminal case against a 20-year-old native of Dagestan. He is suspected of recruiting for a terrorist organization (Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Russian Criminal Code).
According to investigators, the suspect knew a resident of the village of Novaya Adygeya, who was allegedly planning a terrorist attack at the MEGA Adygeya-Kuban shopping center. Law enforcement officials claim the young man met young people from the Islamic community in the Takhtamukaysky District, disseminated propaganda among them for a terrorist organization banned in Russia, and urged them to commit terrorist attacks.
