Former Georgian Interior Ministry official Lasha Shergelashvili, who served as the head of the Armaments Department of the Special Operations Directorate, said on Formula TV that a banned substance was used to suppress a protest outside the Central Election Commission in 2020. When asked if he had any suspicions, he replied that he "knew for sure that it was used" as he was there at the time.
The day before, a procession was held in Yerevan in protest against the "surrender" of Karabakh to Azerbaijan, after which the date of the new rally was announced. The activists called on everyone to join the protest actions from July 24 and block the streets in Yerevan.
The protesters demand that the Armenian authorities refuse to recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
In addition, representatives of the Association of Volunteers, Police and Military Reserves in Armenia announced their readiness to dismiss the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. “We will unite the military, volunteers, reserve officers around one common, unified idea. First of all, we will defend our Motherland together with the soldiers and will try to liberate our occupied territories,” the representatives of the association said.
The day before, Pashinyan himself said that until the peace treaty is signed, a new war with Azerbaijan is very likely.
