Pro-Russian billionaire's pretrial detention extended in Armenia

The Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan has remanded billionaire and Russian citizen Samvel Karapetyan in custody for another two months, rejecting his defense's appeal. The arrest was based on charges of "calls to overthrow the government."

The court hearing, which began on the morning of November 17, concluded after midnight. Karapetyan was arrested in June after speaking out in defense of the Armenian Church and charged with publicly calling for the seizure of power. He was later charged with money laundering.

Karapetyan is known as a Russian stooge. From pretrial detention, he accused the Armenian government of severing ties with Russia, emphasizing that Moscow, as Yerevan's main ally, values reliability, predictability, and honesty.
