Armenia announces imminent signing of peace treaty with Azerbaijan

Baku and Yerevan still need to agree on a couple of formulations in the text of the peace treaty. This was stated by the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ararat Mirzoyan.

"I will express cautious optimism that in the near future we will be able to reach an agreement on them, after which the treaty will be ready for signing," he said in the country's parliament.

Mirzoyan also added that Azerbaijan semi-officially welcomed Armenia's proposals to unblock transport communications in the region. According to him, the issue of communications is one of the most difficult, and it is in this context that they are talking about a corridor for communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.

As for the relations between Yerevan and Moscow, the parties have disagreements on a number of foreign policy issues, but the countries have strong economic ties, their relations are transparent, Mirzoyan said

He also noted that international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire is not the primary task of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

"The issue of studying the tragic pages of our history, researching the Armenian genocide, or turning the issue into priority number 1 is definitely not on the agenda of the Armenian Foreign Ministry," Mirzoyan said.

According to him, the list of priority tasks includes settling relations and signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, conducting delimitation and unblocking communications.
