Blogger Magomeddibir Magomeddibirov, a native of Dagestan who has been held in an Astrakhan pretrial detention center for over six months, has declared a hunger strike.
He was initially charged after a traffic conflict under Part I of Article 213 of the Criminal Code, classifying his actions as "Hooliganism." The charge was subsequently upgraded to Part II of the same article—"Hooliganism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy." Magomeddibirov's property was seized as part of the case.
According to Shamil Khadulaev, Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, Magomeddibir Magomeddibirov's arrest occurred after his collision with a handball coach on the road in Astrakhan. The incident was captured on video.
"The recordings show that the coach struck the blogger first." "During the ensuing brawl, Magomeddibirov suffered a concussion. Nevertheless, law enforcement officers in Astrakhan detained him," Khadulaev emphasized.
The auto blogger from Dagestan, who now lives in Astrakhan, was arrested in December 2025. He was accused of assaulting handball coach Georgy Zaikin. However, video footage of the altercation indicates that Zaikin initiated the fight. Magomeddibirov then filed a police report and was subsequently hospitalized with a concussion. Magomeddibirov was soon detained at the hospital, this time based on the handball coach's complaint.
