The head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Ulyanovsk region, Islam Huseynov, has been stripped of his Russian citizenship and will be deported. According to Russian media, this decision was made jointly by the regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service (FSB). The reasons for the citizenship revocation and deportation have not been officially disclosed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan reported on a special operation at the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan in Baku. Two employees of the Russian FSB working for this agency were detained. Moscow expressed concern.
In February, the representative office of the state media group Rossiya Segodnya in Azerbaijan (Sputnik Azerbaijan) ceased operations. However, the publication continued its actual work.
“The Kremlin regrets the decisions taken by the Azerbaijani authorities regarding relations with Russia. The actions of law enforcement agencies cannot be the basis for diplomatic demarches. Moscow is interested in developing good relations with Baku. So far, a conversation between Putin and Aliyev is not on the agenda, but if necessary, such a conversation will be organized as soon as possible,” said Russian presidential press secretary Peskov.
The searches in the Russian media office are taking place against the backdrop of Baku’s accusations against the Russian FSB of killing Azerbaijanis during a raid in Yekaterinburg. Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed its protest to Russia.
On June 27, Russian security forces killed two Azerbaijani citizens, wounded several people and detained nine. According to the Russian investigation, they are suspected of murder. According to lawyers, some of the detainees were tortured.
After this, the delegation of the Azerbaijani parliament, headed by First Vice Speaker Ali Akhmedov, refused to participate in the planned meeting of the Commission on Interparliamentary Cooperation with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in Moscow. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture announced the cancellation of all events related to Russia.
