Baku has announced information aggression by Russian media against Azerbaijanis

The Commission of the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan on countering external interference has established that some media outlets and individuals in Russia have launched a large-scale information campaign against the country and ethnic Azerbaijanis.

“Some resources have widely promoted aggression and inhuman treatment of Azerbaijanis, and have also made provocative calls to take unfriendly steps against Azerbaijan. We call on citizens living abroad to trust and rely exclusively on information from government agencies and officials of Azerbaijan,” Baku said.

Recall that on June 27, two ethnic Azerbaijanis were killed and about 50 people were detained as part of an operation by Russian security forces in Yekaterinburg. Six people were sent to pretrial detention, many were tortured. A forensic medical examination in Azerbaijan has established that the cause of death of the two Safarov brothers was post-traumatic shock caused by multiple rib fractures and other serious injuries. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case on the fact of torture and premeditated murder with particular cruelty of two citizens of the country and persons of Azerbaijani origin by Russian law enforcement officers.

On June 30, Azerbaijani security forces detained in Baku the editor-in-chief of the Russian state agency "Sputnik Azerbaijan" Igor Kartavykh and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov. They were called FSB agents and arrested. In response, a number of Azerbaijani businessmen were detained in Russia.
