A three-day watch in memory of the victims of the 2004 terrorist attack began in Beslan

In Beslan, a three-day watch began in memory of the victims of the tragedy at school No. 1. The head of North Ossetia, Sergei Menyailo, arrived at the site of the tragedy to lay flowers. Former hostages and their relatives gathered at the memorial complex for the victims of the terrorist attack, and at 9:15 a bell rang at the school - it was at this time that terrorists broke in here 19 years ago.

For three days in the evenings, hundreds of candles will be lit on the territory of the educational institution in memory of the dead. On the last day of the watch, the funeral procession will pass from the temple located in the school yard to the memorial cemetery "City of Angels". In memory of the victims of the tragedy, white balloons will be released into the sky.

On September 1, 2004, 32 terrorists seized School No. 1 in Beslan during a solemn assembly and took 1,128 people hostage. People were herded into the gym and forcibly held without food or water. The militants demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya. On the afternoon of September 3, two explosions thundered in the building, a fire broke out. The special forces entered into battle with the militants when the hostages began to run out of the school. As a result of the fighting, 334 people were killed, including 186 children.

Marina Duchko, a former hostage of the terrorist act, died last fall in North Ossetia due to illness, she developed sepsis. During the explosion in the gym, the woman received a serious spinal injury and lost the ability to walk. The woman underwent several operations, one of which ended in failure.
The terrorist act became the largest in the history of Russia in terms of the number of victims and remains so to this day. The only surviving terrorist, Nurpashi Kulaev, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that 19 years later, the identity of one of the five previously unidentified terrorists was established. It turned out to be a native of Ingushetia Aslanbek Parchiev. This is reported by Izvestia.
