Chechnya Declares Niyso Organization and Telegram Channel Extremist

The Supreme Court of Chechnya has declared the opposition movement Niyso an extremist organization and banned its activities in the Russian Federation. The ruling was based on a lawsuit filed by the regional prosecutor.

Niyso representatives, for their part, stated that they consider the Russian authorities terrorists and occupiers. They expressed the opinion that the designation of their organization as extremist only confirms the effectiveness of its activities.

The Niyso movement was founded in August 2022 and positions itself as a group of information activists. Their Telegram channel covers events in Chechnya, including cases of kidnappings, and publishes critical materials about the authorities. Relatives of the movement's members have reportedly been repeatedly persecuted by law enforcement agencies.
