Chechnya will again consider the complaint of an artist who was tortured by security forces

The Supreme Court of Chechnya decided to send the criminal case of tortured actor Timur Debishev for a new trial. Thus, for the fifth time, the highest regional court did not support the refusal to investigate a crime based on the complaint of the Team Against Torture.

In total, the investigation refused to charge the police 13 times under the article of abuse of power with the use of violence against a former actor of the Grozny Russian Drama Theater. According to Debishev, in 2018, security forces found in his mobile phone the number of a drug trafficking suspect. The actor was detained, beaten and tortured with electric shock.

At the Republican Hospital, Debishev was diagnosed with multiple hematomas on his body, and a medical expert determined that he had injuries caused by electric current.

The European Court ruled to pay Debishev compensation in the amount of 52 thousand euros.
