In Dagestan, they plan to open a criminal case against the ex-head of the district, whose sons participated in the terrorist attack

The ex-head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov, whose sons and nephew participated in the terrorist attack in Derbent, was arrested for 10 days. He is charged with “petty hooliganism.”

According to media reports, in the near future they plan to open a criminal case against Omarov for aiding terrorism - he allegedly admitted that he knew about his sons’ radical views.

It was previously reported that Omarov’s two sons and nephew were supporters of takfirism, a radical Islamist movement of the Egyptian type, banned in Russia. The official himself stated during interrogation that his children are Wahhabis. According to him, in recent years he has not communicated with his sons. The official assured investigators that he does not consider himself a member of this movement.

The number of police killed in terrorist attacks in Dagestan has risen to 18. In addition, five civilians and five attackers, including Omarov's relatives, were killed.

On the evening of June 23, militants attacked Orthodox churches and synagogues in Derbent and Makhachkala. Some politicians immediately blamed Ukraine and the West for the incident.
