Dagestan Convicts Activist Who Criticized Persecution of Anti-Israel Pogrom Participants

A court in Makhachkala sentenced activist and blogger Ramazan Rabadanov to three years and two months of suspended imprisonment. He was found guilty of possessing weapons and ammunition. The activist was also fined 50,000 rubles.

Dagestan POC member Shamil Khadulaev linked the blogger's prosecution to his plans to cover the trials of those accused in the Makhachkala airport pogrom.

On November 7, 2024, Ramazan Rabadanov was detained by the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Makhachkala. He was allegedly found to have a pistol, ammunition, and a grenade. The man told his relatives that the security forces had planted prohibited items on him.

Rabadanov's relatives noted that he had received threats from law enforcement agencies four times regarding his live broadcasts in support of those arrested for participating in an anti-Israeli protest at the Makhachkala airport.

Recall that on October 29, 2023, hundreds of people stormed the Makhachkala airport, trying to find passengers on a transit flight from Tel Aviv. Those gathered were protesting against Israel's actions in Palestine. The Ministry of Internal Affairs for Dagestan reported that 1,500 people took part in the protest, and criminal cases were opened against 142. More than 90 people have already received real prison terms in the "airport case".
