The number of newly diagnosed drug addiction cases has decreased in Dagestan and Stavropol Krai

In 2025, a decrease in the number of newly diagnosed drug addiction cases was observed in several regions of the North Caucasus Federal District. This information is based on reports from regional health authorities.

In Dagestan, 3,900 citizens were diagnosed with drug addiction for the first time in 2024, while in 2025, the number of such cases decreased by approximately 20%. Agency representatives attribute this trend to active prevention efforts and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

In Stavropol Krai, 427 people were newly diagnosed with drug-related illnesses in 2025, a 7.2% decrease from the previous year.

Positive changes also affected the adolescent age group. In Dagestan, four cases of drug addiction among minors were recorded in 2024, while in 2025, two were recorded.

Across the Russian Federation, according to an Izvestia analysis based on Rosstat data, there was a 37% overall decline in newly diagnosed cases of drug addiction from 2015 to 2024. The Russian Ministry of Health reports that in 2025, the total number of patients with drug dependence syndrome decreased by 2.2% compared to the previous year.
