A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union and the ministerial of the Eastern Partnership countries was held in Brussels. As the EU's chief diplomat Josep Borrell noted, Georgia is moving towards EU membership, and the situation in Armenia requires strong support.
In addition, the Foreign Ministers of the Baltic countries stated that they strongly support the assignment of candidate status to Georgia for accession to the EU. According to Borrell, all analyzes and proposals of the European Commission were very positive in this regard.
In March 2022, Georgia applied for candidate status to join the European Union. In June of the same year, it was approved subject to the fulfillment of 12 points, including respect for human rights, de-oligarchization, constructive relations between the authorities and the opposition, etc.
The final decision on granting candidate status to Georgia must be made by EU leaders at a summit in Brussels on December 14-15.
