In Georgia, a lawyer alleged degrading treatment of a TV Pirveli journalist

Georgi Mamniashvili, an employee of the Georgian opposition television channel TV Pirveli, was subjected to degrading treatment in custody after being detained on November 22. His lawyer, Tornike Migineishvili, stated this, stating that the journalist was handcuffed for several hours and forced to strip naked and do squats. Mamniashvili is reportedly being held in the Dighomi pretrial detention center.

Migineishvili stated that he has no precise information regarding the charges against his client, who stated that the police officer did not issue any legal demand and, therefore, there was no disobedience on his part.

TV Pirveli reported that the journalist was detained while performing his professional duties on Rustaveli Avenue while filming the arrests of protesters.

The lawyer emphasized that completely stripping the detainee and other similar actions contradict not only the Convention on Human Rights, but also the Constitution, as they humiliate his dignity.
