In Georgia, they reported on the prevention of foreign subversive activities

The State Security Service of Georgia announced the connections of domestic journalists and politicians with foreign special services.

"The communication of individual media representatives with officials of foreign states and, presumably, representatives of the special services, from whom they received funding and instructions, as well as provided information on issues of interest," says the report of the SGB for the past hour.

According to the agency, in 2024 foreign special services also tried to establish ties with various Georgian political forces in order to "advance the interests of their countries" and recruit individual citizens. In the report, it is noted that foreigners residing on the territory of Georgia were used for this purpose. These persons allegedly transferred photos, videos and GPS coordinates of important objects to foreign customers.

The SGB claims that in 2024 it was possible to "neutralize events that harm the country's national interests" organized from abroad.
The counterintelligence department opened eight criminal cases. However, it is noteworthy that the report does not specify specific countries that could be interested in subversive activities in Georgia.

Representatives of the "Georgian Dream" have repeatedly accused the European Union and the United States of trying to destabilize the situation in the country. The ruling party explains its controversial initiatives, which the opposition and the West consider repressive, by countering destructive foreign influence. In particular, during his stay in power, "Dream" banned the financing of TV channels from abroad and introduced criminal liability for mass media and NGOs that do not report on foreign financing.
