Massive police dismissals reported in Georgia after large-scale protests began
Employees of the Georgian Interior Ministry are resigning en masse – there are already about 100 applications. This was reported by the former Prime Minister of the country, former head of the Interior Ministry, leader of the opposition party “For Georgia” Giorgi Gakharia.

He also spoke about “the loss of professionals and the threat of civil confrontation due to the actions of the authorities.” According to him, the actions of the leaders of the ruling party have crossed all “red lines” and are leading Georgia “to a political dead end, which may be followed by civil confrontation.”

“The Interior Ministry is losing qualified personnel, and their recovery will take years. Most of the worthy police officers have gone abroad, working as drivers in America. Many people left the country, some were forced to stay, some were intimidated or bribed. This is a huge tragedy,” Gakharia shared.

In his opinion, the Ministry of Internal Affairs should be completely depoliticized, and there are internal conflicts in the Georgian Dream.

"They are already physically beating each other within the party, and all of Tbilisi knows this. They communicate only in the language of force, both inside and outside," the opposition leader was indignant.

Protests against the government's decision to freeze negotiations on Georgia's accession to the EU until the end of 2028 have been ongoing in Tbilisi since November 28. The participants are supported by public and political figures, intellectuals, and business representatives. The police are using tear gas, water cannons, and batons to disperse the protesters.
