The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on plans by US President Donald Trump's family, along with local partners, to build a 70-story Trump Tower in Tbilisi. According to the publication, the building is slated to be the tallest in the Georgian capital.
This news comes amid the ruling Georgian Dream party's desire to restore relations with the United States and establish a partnership with the Trump administration.
The Georgian opposition movement "Freedom Square" has presented a "transitional phase plan" outlining the steps to be taken in the first 100 days after the change of power. Specifically, the document explains how constitutional order and a fair electoral environment will be restored.
Representatives of the political group assert that Georgia is currently experiencing a "deep political and institutional crisis," that the "seizure of power and uncontrolled authority" have weakened it and "undermined citizens' trust." According to Levan Tsutskiridze, one of the leaders of "Freedom Square," the public must be aware of the changes that will occur in the country if the Georgian Dream government is overthrown.
"In recent months, we have published a vision of how the fight against the authoritarian regime should continue and how we should remove them from power. "Freedom Square" believes that society must understand what will change in the country if Georgian Dream leaves. "We've been working on this plan for several months. It covers key issues necessary for restoring accountable government and returning democratic order to the country. Therefore, the transition plan envisions reforms that will change the functioning of government, the redistribution of powers, the balance of power in elections, social issues, and the complete liberation of public services from party control. These are the minimum changes necessary to enable us to address more pressing issues," Tsutskiridze shared.
