In 14 Russian regions, including Ingushetia and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, a number of commercial medical institutions have renounced their licenses to perform abortions. This was announced by Priest Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family Issues, Motherhood, and Childhood.
"At least 752 institutions—with the assistance of diocesan and regional governors—have voluntarily renounced abortion services. Work with private clinics to restrict abortions is underway in more than 40 other regions of the Russian Federation," Lukyanov said.
In recent years, Russia has seen an intensification of the campaign aimed at restricting women's access to abortion. The Ministry of Health has developed recommendations instructing doctors to use persuasive language to persuade women to continue their pregnancies.
