The search for Bekkhan Aushev, a local resident who presumably drowned in the Assa River, has been ongoing for three days in Ingushetia. In addition to rescuers, more than 100 volunteers have joined the effort.

According to the regional office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, members of the Ershi search and rescue team—ten people and two pieces of equipment—are working at the scene. They are surveying the riverbed, the water area, and the coastal strip. The search is complicated by the Assa River's strong current and the difficult terrain.

The man's disappearance was reported on the morning of July 21. The Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report around 9:00 AM: a man had gone missing in the Assa River on the outskirts of the village of Alkun in the Sunzhensky District. According to preliminary information, he may have drowned. Rescuers and volunteers have been continuing the search since then.

The mountain rivers of the North Caucasus are characterized by fast currents, sharp drops in depth, and numerous underwater rocks. Even in hot weather, the water remains cold, and a strong current can sweep a person for kilometers in a matter of seconds, leaving them no chance of escaping. This is why search operations often last several days.

One of the most high-profile such tragedies this summer was the story of eight-year-old Khizir Derbichev, who disappeared in the Sunzha River in Ingushetia. Tens of thousands of volunteers from across the North Caucasus joined the search for him, but he was found dead several days later.
