Famous Russian mountaineer dies in Kabardino-Balkaria

Famous mountaineer Alexander Rastorguev died tragically in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria. During the ascent, the sports group was caught in a rockfall. In addition to Rastorguev's death, Ekaterina Fedorchuk was injured, evacuated by helicopter and taken to the hospital. Another member of the group was not injured.

Alexander Rastorguev was a master of sports in mountaineering and an experienced instructor. Over 40 years, he made more than 200 ascents, including the first ascent of Koshtantau in 1989.

Rastorguev held leadership positions in mountaineering organizations, in particular, he was the president of the Mountaineering Federation of Krasnodar Krai, and was also a member of the Russian Geographical Society.
