A state of emergency has been declared in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic

A powerful mudflow has descended in the city of Tyrnyauz (Kabardino-Balkaria) as a result of heavy rainfall. According to the Kabardino-Balkarian government, a bridge support on the federal highway "Prokhladny - Baksan - Elbrus" was damaged, which led to a complete stop of traffic. A state of emergency has been declared in the Elbrus district and Tyrnyauz.

A mudflow that descended from the mountain river Gerkhozhan-Suu went beyond the mudflow chute and partially flooded the adjacent territory. The head of the republic, Kazbek Kokov, reported that residential buildings and vital facilities were not damaged, but significant damage was caused to the road infrastructure. As a result of the natural disaster, part of the city was left without electricity, water and gas supplies.

Recall that Tyrnyauz has already faced similar natural phenomena. In 2000, a powerful mudflow led to the death of eight people and the destruction of residential buildings and bridges.
