A Crimean Tatar political prisoner was diagnosed with tuberculosis in a colony

In the colony of Verkhneuralsk, Chelyabinsk region, Crimean Tatar activist Tofik Abdulgaziev was diagnosed with tuberculosis and a number of other diseases. His wife Aliye Kurtametova received the results of the examinations and a power of attorney to announce her husband’s diagnosis by email, but he himself does not get in touch.

Since 2019, since the day of his arrest, Tofik Abdulgaziev has lost 40 kilograms. He was recently transferred from intensive care to the intensive care unit of the Verkhneuralsk hospital in the Chelyabinsk region.

Crimean Solidarity activist, Crimean Tatar Tofik Abdulgaziev was sent into custody on March 27, 2019. In May 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced him to 12 years in prison. He, like hundreds of other Crimean Tatars, was accused of participating in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation. At the same time, the case materials contain no information about the planning or implementation of terrorist attacks, as well as calls for them.
