Fourth lawsuit filed with Georgia's Constitutional Court against foreign agent law

A lawsuit was filed with the Constitutional Court of Georgia on behalf of investigative journalists: editor of "Mtis Ambebi" Gela Mtivlishvili and founder of "Studio Monitori" Nino Zuriashvili. This is the fourth lawsuit against the foreign agent law adopted by parliament.

According to the statement, the controversial law poses serious problems for free media, and journalistic investigations that take into account the principle of anonymity are under threat.

Earlier, lawsuits were filed by 38 opposition members of parliament, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili and 121 Georgian NGOs.

Since August 1, according to the law on foreign agents, Georgian NGOs and media outlets that receive more than 20% of their income from abroad are required to enter data on their sources of funding into a special register. Otherwise, they face large fines.
