The Kremlin responded to Pashinyan’s words about leaving the CSTO

The Kremlin will clarify Armenia's position on the CSTO. This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the statements of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about leaving the organization. “In any case, we will adhere to partnership and allied relations,” Peskov noted.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, in turn, commented on the situation: “Many want to ruin relations between Yerevan and Moscow and have done a lot to harm them. Nevertheless, Russia did everything to ensure that these attempts were in vain.”

According to Zakharova, extremely offensive statements addressed to the Russian Federation and destructive measures ricochet through the people of Armenia, undermining regional security and stability.

Today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that “the next logical step will be withdrawal from the CSTO, and the country’s authorities will decide exactly when to take this step.”

“One of the leaders of the CSTO stated that he participated in the preparation of the war against Armenia, supported, believed, and wished for the victory of Azerbaijan. After this, should I discuss issues with the President of Belarus in the CSTO format?” Pashinyan said.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a regional international organization created to “protect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity” of its member states. It includes the Russian Federation, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
