The Kremlin is skeptical about the information about the body of the murdered teenager being put on public display

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov called the reports about the body of the young man who shot a policeman in the Chechen city of Achkhoy-Martan being put on public display "not credible".

"We certainly would not like to rely on information that is being disseminated by opposition Telegram channels. We do not consider these sources to be credible. We have no other information," Peskov said.

Earlier, a video was circulated on Telegram showing residents of Achkhoy-Martan gathered in the square in front of the body of a 17-year-old teenager thrown to the ground. His name is presumably Eskerkhan Khumashev.

Recall that on April 7 in Achkhoy-Martan, a local resident attacked a traffic police post with a knife. Two police officers were stabbed, one of them subsequently died. A criminal case has been opened on the incident under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on attacks on the lives of law enforcement officers.

The 2026 World Press Freedom Index, published this morning by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), records the worst deterioration in global media freedom in 25 years. More than half of the world's countries rank the situation as "challenging" or "very challenging," and the average index level has never been lower. A key trend is increasing legal pressure on the media: of the five indicators used to assess press freedom worldwide (economy, law, security, politics, culture, and society), the "law" indicator showed the most significant decline.
