Chechen lawyer's arrest extended for three months in Moscow

The Presnensky Court of Moscow extended the term of arrest of a lawyer, a native of Chechnya, Timur Idalov, until September 12. Earlier, he was charged under Part 1 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (threat of violence against a representative of authority).

According to investigators, at a meeting of the Nikulinsky District Court in October 2022, Idalov made threats against the state prosecutor. Later, he stated that the charges against him were fabricated by the FSB with the help of the investigating authorities. Challenging the measure of restraint, the defense referred to the unsubstantiated suspicions. She called the initiation of a criminal case revenge on a lawyer acting as a defense counsel in a number of high-profile criminal cases.

Timur Idalov collaborated with the For Human Rights project and specialized in cases involving accusations of terrorism or high-profile murders. In particular, he defended one of the suspects in the murder of Ibragim Eldzharkiev, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Center for Ingushetia.
