The Russian Foreign Ministry assessed the US-EU-Armenia meeting as “another attempt by the “collective West” to drag the South Caucasus into a geopolitical confrontation.”
It is noted that the intervention of extra-regional forces in the affairs of the South Caucasus could “provoke an uncontrollable increase in tension.” According to the statement, the West is seeking Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as the withdrawal of the Russian military base and border guards from the country.
The day before, a joint press conference was held in Brussels by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. Josep Borrell, at a meeting with Pashinyan, promised Armenia support in “countering foreign information manipulations and interventions,” as well as assistance in increasing the information literacy of the population.
Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, expressed hope that the West will help modernize the infrastructure of Armenia.
“Yerevan is ready to improve the investment environment to attract European and American companies and enter new markets,” said the Armenian prime minister.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that his country has no other choice but to move towards Europe. He also repeatedly criticized the military-political bloc CSTO, which is under Russian influence, and announced the suspension of Armenia’s participation in it.
