Russia warns of possible reduction in trade with Armenia due to the fault of the European Union

Trade between Russia and Armenia may decrease by 6 billion dollars by the end of 2025. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

According to the official, this is due to economic barriers, the work of regulatory authorities and difficulties with mutual settlements.

According to Overchuk, Armenia's rapprochement with the European Union is one of the key reasons for the predicted decline in trade between Armenia and the Russian Federation.

"We understand what is happening. Or rather, we are seeing a drop in numbers now. By the end of the year - minus 6 billion dollars... We do not want this, because the example of Armenia is such a showcase of the EAEU. This is an example of the success of the EAEU economic model," he emphasized.

In addition, Overchuk said that Russian business has no future in Armenia if Yerevan decides to join the EU.

"Armenia's course towards rapprochement with the EU is already having a negative impact on the country's economy. In 2024, trade turnover with Russia decreased by $2 billion, and in 2025, losses could reach $6 billion," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted.
