Russia says US is preparing "color revolution" in Georgia

The US is preparing to stage a "Tbilisi Maidan" to prevent Georgia's ruling party, Georgian Dream, from winning the parliamentary elections in October. This was stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

The SVR notes that after the elections, it is planned to announce that the results will not be recognized due to falsifications and demand that the opposition come to power. Law enforcement agencies will be provoked to suppress protests by force.

The day before, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that peace in the country has been maintained thanks to the refusal to open a "second front" against Russia.

"We did not give in to coordinated pressure to open a second front against the Russian Federation, we did not give in to demands to join the sanctions and send volunteers to Ukraine, which would have brought economic disaster and war to the country... We preserved peace for the country," Kobakhidze said during a speech at a pre-election rally. Georgia condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but did not join the anti-Russian sanctions. There are no direct political and diplomatic relations between Moscow and Tbilisi, although mutual trade and tourism occur.
