In a pre-trial detention center in Rostov, special forces shot dead six prisoners who took hostages

Employees of the Russian Guard stormed pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Rostov-on-Don, where six prisoners took two detention center workers hostage. They were all killed. The hostages were rescued, one of them received a slight stab wound. Among those killed were M. Saipudinov, A. Tsitskiev, D. Kamneev, T. Gireev, Sh. Akiev and M. Gandaloev.

Shamil Akiev, Tamerlan Gireev and Azamat Tsitskiev were convicted in December 2023 on charges of participation in the banned terrorist group ISIS and preparing a terrorist attack in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic to 18, 18 and 18.5 years, respectively. Malik Gandaloev is a former medical student, the son of the ex-chief physician of the Achaluk District Hospital in Ingushetia. He was tried on charges of manufacturing and illegal storage of explosives. Another of the participants, Saypudinov, was accused of robbery and robbery.

On the morning of June 16, it became known that six prisoners of the Rostov pre-trial detention center knocked out the window bars in the cell, entered the duty station and took two hostages. In exchange for the release of the FSIN employees, they demanded a car, weapons and the opportunity to leave. They also recorded several videos from the pre-trial detention center, published by Telegram channels, in which the invaders called themselves supporters of the terrorist group ISIS and stated that they were “taking revenge for the brothers who were illegally imprisoned.”

Member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, journalist Eva Merkacheva accused the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service of the fact that those accused of terrorism were not kept “separately and under enhanced supervision (in cells with only video surveillance),” contrary to statements by the heads of the department to the contrary for 20 years.

She claims that: “The terrorists communicated with each other in the pre-trial detention center because the action was well planned and prepared;
terrorists contacted their leadership in the wild because they know exactly what to do;
the terrorists had symbols of a banned organization in their cells;
The terrorists have knives and clubs:
terrorists have mobile phones.”
