The United States announced a review of relations with Georgia after its parliament adopted an anti-democratic law on foreign agents. This was announced by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
“We are talking about the amount of assistance that we provide to Georgia - about $390 million that have been allocated over the past few years. We are talking about potential sanctions, visa restrictions, which we announced a little over two weeks ago and which we are now thinking about - whether they should be adopted, as well as how and when,” Miller shared.
A supporter of Georgia's friendship with the United States, Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is under arrest, addressed the country's youth.
“I am locked in prison by order of Putin for not handing over Georgia to Russia at one time, and I want to humbly appeal to you: I, Putin’s prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili, declare that I am on the side of the youth without any political or personal gain or motivation . It was your bold, colorful, organized actions against the law on foreign agents that revived the national spirit and united the Georgian people like never before. Thanks to you and only you, there is such international support,” the former president wrote on social networks.
Saakashvili called on young people not to change the means of achieving the goal and to force Georgia's political leaders to abandon attempts to destroy national unity.
