20-year-old Chechen student found dead in Istanbul: investigators are studying new details

The body of a young man with a garbage bag over his head was found in a forested area of the Sarıyer district of Istanbul. According to the Turkish publication Milliyet, the identity of the deceased has been established - he is a 20-year-old Russian of Chechen origin, Usman Amriev, a student at one of the private universities in Istanbul.

According to the investigation, the body was found on the morning of July 28 in the Bahçekoy district by a passerby who reported it to emergency services. The doctors who arrived at the scene recorded death. The young man had a black garbage bag on his head, secured with tape. A bag, personal belongings, a phone, an İstanbulkart travel card and money were found next to the body.

The deceased was holding a printed note addressed to his mother. In it, he states that he will be slandered, asks not to be considered a traitor, and claims that everyone will “get what they deserve,” even if they don’t remember him. At the end of the note, the 153rd verse of Surah Baqarah from the Koran was cited.

The investigation established that Usman Amriev had been in Turkey for about three years: first he studied at the University of Kutahya, then moved to Istanbul and continued his studies. CCTV cameras and transport map data showed that on the day of his death, he first visited the Mecidiyeköy district, then returned to the dormitory, after which he went to Bahçeköy and walked into the forest, where his body was later found.

According to unofficial information circulating on social networks, traces of knife wounds were found on Usman’s body, but official sources have not yet confirmed this information. At the moment, the police are considering both the version of suicide and the possibility of violent death. The investigation is ongoing.
