Criminal case against former sports minister of Dagestan transferred to court

A criminal case against former sports minister of Dagestan and former mayor of Kizilyurt Magomed Magomedov, as well as his alleged accomplices, has been submitted to the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office filed a motion to transfer the case from the Supreme Court of Dagestan to the Southern District Military Court. This decision is related to security concerns for the participants in the process, since one of the defendants has "ethno-clan connections" in the law enforcement agencies of the republic and can influence the course of the proceedings.

There are eight defendants in the dock. Magomedov's lawyers called the transfer of territorial jurisdiction unfounded. In their opinion, the motion does not include the names of those who can put pressure on the participants. They also stated that transferring the case to Rostov-on-Don violates the right to defense.

Magomedov is accused of embezzling 460 thousand rubles, creating a gang of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and collectors. In addition, he is accused of organizing a double murder and attempted murder. According to the investigation, the official's guards shot the deputy head of the treasury Mirza Sirazhudinov and his son, and also wounded the owner of a cafe near the Kavkaz highway. The motive was revenge for the unsuccessful assassination attempt on Magomedov himself in 2005.

As part of the investigation of the criminal case, the court seized Magomedov's assets. Among them are seven land plots with an area of 312 to 10 thousand square meters, two premises and five buildings. He himself has been under arrest since 2023.
