New protests against the “pro-Russian” law on foreign agents were announced in Tbilisi

Today the Georgian parliament will hold the first hearing on the adoption of the bill on foreign agents. It provides for the appearance of a register in which all non-profit legal entities and media outlets financed by more than 20% from abroad will be entered.

Yesterday, the Legal Committee of the Georgian Parliament supported the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” in the first reading, despite unrest and protests. His discussion lasted 11 hours. Opponents of the law promised to resume protests near the parliament building.

The day before, 14 people were detained during the rally. They were charged under administrative articles of “petty hooliganism” and “disobedience to the demands of government officials” (166 Code of Administrative Offenses and 173 Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia).
