Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the deaths of at least 9,450 military personnel from the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts have been publicly confirmed. These figures come from *Kavkazsky Uzel* (Caucasian Knot), which maintains an independent tally based on public announcements from government bodies, security agencies, and other official sources.

This figure represents an independent count rather than an official report from the Russian Ministry of Defense; it includes only cases that have received official confirmation. Compared to the data from July 6, the number of confirmed fatalities has risen by 50.

As of July 19, *Kavkazsky Uzel* had confirmed the deaths of at least 4,694 military personnel from the North Caucasian Federal District.

Dagestan accounts for the highest number of fatalities, with 2,035. Confirmed deaths include 961 military personnel from Stavropol Krai, 589 from North Ossetia, and 441 from Kabardino-Balkaria.

The tally for Chechnya includes 265 fatalities. The names of 242 of these individuals were released by the authorities. The head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced the deaths of another 23 individuals in October 2022 without disclosing their names.

Confirmed fatalities include 204 military personnel from Ingushetia and 199 from Karachay-Cherkessia.

In the regions of the Southern Federal District, *Kavkazsky Uzel* has recorded at least 4,756 military fatalities.

The Volgograd Region accounts for the highest number of deaths, with 1,814. Publicly confirmed fatalities among military personnel stand at 942 in the Rostov Region, 873 in the Krasnodar Territory, and 751 in the Astrakhan Region.

The editorial tally includes 235 fatalities for Kalmykia and 141 for Adygea.

Thus, Dagestan and the Volgograd Region account for more than 40% of all confirmed military deaths from the regions of these two federal districts.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" notes that its tally does not reflect the total number of fatalities. Since it is based solely on cases confirmed in public statements by government bodies, security agencies, and other official sources, actual losses may be significantly higher.

The publication "Mediazona," the BBC Russian Service, and a team of volunteers also maintain their own lists of confirmed fatalities by name. Unlike "Kavkazsky Uzel," this project draws on a wider range of open sources—including obituaries, government announcements, statements by relatives, media reports, and other available data.

According to the project's data, as of July 10, the deaths of 29,839 military personnel hailing from regions of Southern Russia and the North Caucasus had been confirmed by name. Of these, 9,278 were from regions within the North Caucasian Federal District. The project's authors, like the "Kavkazsky Uzel" editorial team, emphasize that these figures cover only cases confirmed via open-source data; therefore, actual losses may be significantly higher.
