Berlin has recalled its ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations. The decision, made by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadepoel, is intended to determine how to proceed, the ministry announced.

If Georgia imposes sanctions against the Russian Federation, as the West is asking it to, it will lose 10% of its economic growth. This was stated by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
“The share of our foreign trade in the Russian Federation’s trade is 0.3%, so the introduction of sanctions would not have any effect on it. As for us, in the first year the country would have seen a 10% economic decline, and in a pessimistic scenario – an 18% decline, which would have led to an economic collapse. This is what the opposition and some people demanded of us behind closed doors, and now the European Parliament has dared to state this publicly,” Kobakhidze said.
According to him, economic problems would have made it easier for the opposition to go to war and change power.
The founder of the ruling party Georgian Dream, its honorary chairman and oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke in favor of banning the opposition after the October parliamentary elections. He stated that the collective opposition National Movement, whose main goal is to split society and incite confrontation, “is trying to return to power at the cost of opening a second front in Georgia.” “First, we will ban the National Movement, its satellite parties or successors at the constitutional level, thereby opening the way for new, healthy political forces, and then, for war crimes, every traitor will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law!” the oligarch said.
