The decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin that same day regarding the change of leadership in Dagestan was published on the Kremlin website. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has resigned, and Fyodor Shchukin has been appointed acting head.
Georgia is ready to reset relations with the US. This was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at a meeting with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressman Mike Turner.
"I had an interesting meeting with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressman Mike Turner, where we discussed relations between Georgia and the US. I once again noted Georgia's readiness to resume and reset our relations in order to strengthen cooperation and bilateral ties," Kobakhidze wrote on social media.
Shaheen and Turner also met with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili and Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani.
"Senator Shaheen and Congressman Turner gave a sharp assessment of the ruling authorities' steps, such as the "Russian law" against foreign agents, which harms Georgian democracy, Georgia's European path and bilateral relations. The parties emphasized the harmful anti-Western rhetoric,” the press release of the Georgian Presidential Administration says.
Salome Zurabishvili noted that it is very important for the Georgian people to feel the support of the United States.
