Russian authorities hold a Crimean Tatar citizen of Ukraine for four months

Crimean Tatar citizen of Ukraine Lia Umerova from December 2022 is kept in isolation in the Russian Federation. First, at the Temporary Detention Centre for Foreign Nationals, three days of administrative detention were ordered after the Centre.

In late 2022, Umerova traveled from Kiev to the Crimea to visit her father, who was diagnosed with cancer. Given the political situation, it has transited through a number of European countries. When entering Russia, she had to pass the checkpoint «Verkhny Lars» in North Ossetia. At the border, she was accused of violating her stay in the restricted area for foreign nationals.

On Umerovu made an administrative protocol on the article on violation of the rules of crossing the state border and decided to expel from the country. However, she was placed in the Temporary Detention Centre for Foreigners in Vladikavkaz, where she stayed until mid-March. After his release, Lya Umerova was accused of police disobedience and was arrested three times for 15 days.

Her parents live in North Ossetia for about two months, waiting for her daughter to be released.
