The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has published a report alleging that Georgian authorities used chemical weapons during the suppression of pro-European protests in Tbilisi in 2024. A court in Kabardino-Balkaria sentenced Timur Yandiev, sentencing him to five years in prison for evading military service during mobilization. Yandiev was absent from his unit for more than four months, beginning on April 25, 2025, and was arrested on September 6 in Mozdok.
"In sentencing the defendant, the court took into account the impact of the sentence on Yandiev's rehabilitation, who recognized the illegality of his actions, spoke truthfully about them, and expressed regret for his actions," the press service of the Nalchik Military Court reported.
The Nalchik Garrison Military Court has previously sentenced contract soldiers and mobilized personnel to prison terms numerous times. Specifically, Algiz Valitov received two years in prison, and Amerkhan Kurskiyev received five years. Arsen Baev and Murat Khapov were sentenced to seven and five years in prison, respectively.
