A court in Cherkessk (Karabakh-Cherkess Republic) fined Jamal Bostanov three thousand rubles. The local resident was found guilty of distributing materials deemed extremist (Article 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
The subject of the administrative proceedings was a book titled "Fortress of a Muslim." According to the court ruling, Bostanov distributed the publication at the entrance to the "Islamic Store" retail outlet located on Lenin Street in Cherkessk. It is unknown whether the books were handed over to the public or simply displayed for display. The court also ordered the confiscation and destruction of the seized literature.
According to the SOVA Research Center, the application of Article 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation against Bostanov is unfounded. "The Muslim's Fortress" is a collection of daily prayers that contains no calls for aggression, and its ban is unlawful. However, Russian courts have banned various editions of this book, which is reflected in the federal list of extremist materials, Sova explained.
