The decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin that same day regarding the change of leadership in Dagestan was published on the Kremlin website. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has resigned, and Fyodor Shchukin has been appointed acting head.
Tbilisi residents have begun to paint "Russian Dream" slogans on the country's ruling party's election banners. Recall that as part of the Georgian Dream advertising campaign, billboards comparing Ukrainian and Georgian cities appeared in Georgia. The banners consist of two parts: photos of bombed buildings in Ukraine with the inscription "No to War" and photos of Georgian infrastructure with the words "Choose Peace".
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called such advertising unacceptable and called on the Georgian authorities to refrain from using "the theme of an aggressive war against Ukraine and its citizens in the domestic political struggle in Georgia." Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, in turn, called such election campaigning shameful advertising.
At the Warsaw Security Forum, Zurabishvili noted that for more than two and a half years, Russia has been waging brutal aggression in the heart of Europe – a war against the sovereignty, freedom and European future of Ukraine.
“Both Europe and America know well, as do the Georgians, that Ukraine is fighting not only for its independence and peace, but also for everyone, for all those countries that are Russia’s neighbors and have already experienced Russian aggression,” the Georgian president emphasized.
She stated that the strategy that Russia is using in Georgia is the presence of proxies. “Georgian Dream,” in her opinion, is Russia’s proxy in Georgia.
