Ingush prisoner not receiving medical care

The lawyer for Timur Tumgoev, an Ingush prisoner who is being held in the punishment cell of IK-5 in the Vologda colony, reported that his health has worsened. According to his defense attorney, Mikhail Mikheev, the prisoner has lost a lot of weight and is not receiving the necessary medical care.

Timur Tumgoev said that the reason for his placement in the punishment cell was a violation of the internal regulations: he was walking without putting his hands behind his back. His sister reported that his brother's prayer rug and Koran were taken away, after which he began to demand that the colony administration return them.

Timur Tumgoev recently ended up in the punishment cell again and attempted suicide. He cut his veins and swallowed sharp objects. Previously, the prisoner had gone on a hunger strike and sewed his mouth shut in protest. He claims that the colony employees are threatening his life.

Timur Tumgoev was sentenced to 18 years in prison in June 2019 for fighting in Syria on the side of ISIS. He was deported to Russia from Ukraine, where he reportedly fought as part of the Sheikh Mansur volunteer battalion in the Donbas. Tumgoev denies any involvement in the Syrian conflict and claims he was tortured in custody.
