Kobakhidze Comments on New Amendments to the Law "On Grants"

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze commented on the latest amendments to the Law "On Grants," which tighten the rules governing the operation of non-governmental organizations and media outlets.

Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos noted that Brussels continues to support NGOs in Georgia, even though "it is very difficult right now," and is seeking ways to provide funding "in a way that does not harm their existence."

The Prime Minister emphasized that foreign funding is unacceptable in the country's political life, and therefore the adopted package of bills is entirely justified.

"Certain individuals are trying to find loopholes in current legislation and thus finance political processes in Georgia. Of course, politics in Georgia should not be financed from abroad, and this idea is supported by the package of bills initiated in parliament and adopted by the Georgian Parliament," Kobakhidze concluded.
