NIYSO: Men of Conscription Age Being Detained in Chechnya

Representatives of the Chechen opposition movement NIYSO reported raids and detentions of men of conscription age. Activists claim these measures are being carried out in the Naursky and Nadterechny districts of Chechnya.

According to information disseminated by the movement, security forces are conducting checks and detaining young men both at their homes and on roads and at checkpoints, after which they are taken away for further investigation.

NIYSO claims that these actions target men between the ages of 18 and 30, including those who have legal grounds for deferment or exemption from conscription, such as students or people with disabilities.

On June 22, NIYSO (designated an extremist organization by the Russian Federation) reported cases of young men applying for university admission in Grozny being taken to military recruitment offices. This practice has become widespread, the movement concluded.
