Ukraine Investigates War Crimes by Akhmat Special Forces Platoon Commander

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has identified the platoon commander of the Akhmat special forces unit formed in Chechnya, who tortured and robbed civilians during the occupation of Kherson. He was charged in absentia with war crimes.

According to the statement of the head of the department, Ruslan Kravchenko, the investigation established that in November 2022, the military leader, together with his accomplices, broke into the house of entrepreneurs in Kherson, where, threatening a woman and her son, he demanded information about the father of the family. After refusing to provide the required information, the young man was tortured in front of his mother. When the father returned, his son was used as a hostage, demanding a ransom of 80 thousand dollars. Having taken the money, the criminals forced the victims to sign fictitious contracts for the sale and purchase of their property.
