Population of Ingushetia recognized as the poorest in Russia

The highest percentage of the poor is found in Ingushetia, accounting for 30.5 per cent of the population of the Republic, which is 1.2 per cent higher than in 2021. 

The second place, according to Rosstat, is Tuva (28.8% of the population), the third - Khakassia (18.1%). Poverty declined the most in the Jewish Autonomous Region (-2.1 per cent, now 20.3 per cent of the poor), Altai (-2 per cent, the poverty rate is 20.4 per cent) and Kabardino-Balkaria (-1.7 per cent at the current 16.4 per cent).

Last year, 14 million Russians (9.8% of the population) were living below the poverty line. This figure is 1 million fewer than Rosstat’s initial estimate, published in March 2023.

Former head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and former president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Ramiz Mehdiyev, will be removed from the Security Council on charges of attempting to seize power. The court previously placed him under house arrest for four months.

The Southern District Military Court found Islam Batsiev, a native of Dagestan, guilty of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer (Article 317 of the Russian Criminal Code) for participating in the attack on Pskov paratroopers as part of Basayev and Khattab's field detachment. Batsiev was sentenced to 21 years in a maximum-security penal colony.
