Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
The RIA Rating agency has published the final socio-economic rating of Russian regions for 2023. Ingushetia took 83rd place, ahead of only Tyva and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
Karachay-Cherkessia was in 81st place, North Ossetia - in 78th, Kabardino-Balkaria - in 76th, Chechnya - in 75th. Dagestan is located on the 72nd line, the Stavropol Territory - on the 39th.
The leaders of the rating are Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Moscow region.
The rating score in the study is the arithmetic average of the points that were awarded to regions based on a number of criteria: quality of life, socio-economic status, labor market conditions, material well-being of the population, scientific and technological development and residents’ commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
